The radio programmes included information on the existing legislation on protection of women against violence and international legal instruments to raise awareness of communities on their legal rights on VAW.

Description: A radio series on prevalence of gender based violence in South Punjab (Multan, Layyah & Muzaffargarh). The radio programmes are based on oral testimonies and on-location recording of survivors of VAW including forced marriages, violations of legal rights of women, domestic violence, lack of sexual and reproductive health facilities etc. The programmes designed through input from locals – both men and women – addressed issues highlighted by them and provided information on accessing legal help through local help centres set up by the government. The programmes advocated respect and equity for women through inputs from local elders, religious scholars and officials.

Description

An awareness-raising radio series on legal rights of women workers. The radio series brings to the fore the many faces of informal economy in the targeted area and the struggles and success of informal women workers.  The series addressed the violation of rights of informal women workers who have no recognition and even lesser awareness on their rights. The themes included violation of women workers’ rights in informal sector, exploitation of home-based workers by middlemen, minimum wage policy and its implementation, health and safety of women workers,  lack of opportunities and access to market – informal workers, status of Provincial policies on home-based workers, labour rights violations – brick kiln workers (Bhatta Mazdoor), factory workers, domestic workers, lady health workers, lack of research and data on informal sector workers and occupational groups in Islamabad/Rawalpindi. The programmes also raised voice against the institutionalisation of violation of rights of women workers by pending ratifications of ILO Conventions on Labour Laws.

Description

A radio series on women’s empowerment in politics to bring about a positive change in the media and its role in strengthening democracy in Pakistan.

Radio producers were trained and sensitized on how to report on women in politics though the gender lens. This production emphasized creating awareness regarding gender sensitivity and fair representation of women politicians in the media. The programmes highlighted the participation of Pakistani women in politics, electoral processes and aimed to raise awareness of journalists on reporting on elections and politics through the gender lens.

The programmes were recorded on-location from Lahore, Bahawalpur, Bhit Shah, Khairpur, Peshawar, Quetta, Muzafarabad, Mirpur and aired from all four provinces and AJK.

Of women, for women’ and most importantly ‘by women’ – this is how one can describe this radio programmes launched a day before the International Women’s Day 2011. Featuring the voices of young women from Lyari on issues that are important to their lives – girls’ education, women’s health, pollution, the impact of drug addiction, and early marriages, Lyari’s young women speak out.

This dynamic group of 30 young women were trained how to use voice recorders to record interviews, vox pops, oral testimonies and discussions with women, young and old – and a few cooperative men – from their neighbourhood. The young women between 15 – 25 years of age, focused on their local issues in an attempt to bring about behavioural changes in the girls, the locality in particular and listeners in general.
