For the second consecutive time, Pakistan has been part of the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) – pulled together by Uks on both the occasions. GMMP is the world’s largest and longest longitudinal study on the gender in the world’s media coordinated by the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC).

Every five years since 1995, GMMP conducts a one-day study of the representation and portrayal of women and men in the news media across the globe to analyze women’s presence in relation to men, gender bias and stereotyping in the news media content. With members in over 100 countries, GMMP’s network includes participants ranging from grass roots community organization to gender and communication groups, university students to research supervisors and media practitioners, all of whom take part in the study on a voluntary basis. Following the suit, Uks organized the GMMP study setting up a team comprising Uks’ research team and university students. On the assigned day, they all gathered to monitor a pre-identified sample from across the media to ensure representation of each medium covering all the regions nationwide. The aim was to take the pulse of selected indicators of gender in the news media and to analyze them through GMMP tools.
